Annual asylum fee calculator
Enter your I-589 filing date and where your case is. You'll see when the yearly fee can start and what the official rules say.
What the official rules say
- No waiver or reduction: the law doesn't allow it. [1]
- USCIS cases: only the principal applicant pays, not family members on the I-589. [4]
- Amount: $100 in fiscal year 2025, $102 in fiscal year 2026, and $105 in fiscal year 2027 — in immigration court from Oct 1, 2026, at USCIS from Oct 16, 2026. The law adjusts it for inflation every fiscal year. [2][3][7][8]
- Immigration-court cases: pay only through the EOIR Payment Portal. On Sept. 22, 2026 a federal court in Maryland vacated EOIR's collection memo and its template payment order; EOIR has not announced a new procedure — follow what your judge orders. [5][9]
- Not required since Feb 5, 2026: Ms. L. settlement class members and qualifying family members. [4]
- Not paying: USCIS can't approve your asylum application while the fee is unpaid. A federal court order of Aug. 5, 2026 currently pauses the USCIS penalties (rejecting the application, ending the work permit, starting removal only for non-payment). In court, Matter of L-F-R- (2026) lets the judge deny or treat the asylum application as abandoned if the fee isn't paid on time — withholding and CAT claims are still decided. [4][10][6]
- These rules were in court in 2026 and are still changing. Your USCIS notice or the judge's written order is what counts.
